It is with the heaviest of hearts we inform of the passing of John Hunter.
John was an unsung hero of the club, having served on the St George DCC management committee for 20 consecutive years between the 1993/94 and 2013/14 seasons. His efforts often weren't known to the public but were greatly appreciated by all core workers within the club. John also acted as the club's delegate at Sydney Cricket Association meetings for 8 seasons.
John was the son of St George DCC First Grade Player No.56 F. Hunter and by his own admission didn't possess the same playing talent on the field, he more than made up for it off the field serving as an administrator in junior and senior cricket.
John also fathered two wonderful 1st grade cricketers in David and Brett Hunter who came through the junior ranks to both play for St George and despite both of them eventually finding greater opportunities at other clubs, John maintained his position on the management committee at the Saints.
Back in 2015 John received the highest honour when he was named as Life Member No.52 of St George DCC which was presented by St George, NSW and Australian legend Murray Bennett.
Away from Cricket John was as successful as a man could be. 50 years of marriage to his beautiful wife Sue, 3 talented children, a happy home where the doors were always open a plethora of friends and cricketing team mates. A large part of why the club was so close and successful back in the 90's.
John spent an astonishing 50 years practicing law where he helped numerous St George cricketers with his conveyancing skills. He also enjoyed 50 years as a member of the Sydney Cricket Ground as well as 50 years as a member of the Lakes Golf Club. Loyal and committed to the end.
John Hunter was a regular face at Hurstville Oval even after his time on the management committee had finished.
A finer man you could not wish to meet. He will be sorely missed by all who new him.
We extend our deepest Sympathies to Sue, David, Brett and Kim.
