St George DCC AGM
Date of Event St George Cricket Club: Mon Jul 15, 2019 8:46PM

The club recently held its AGM at club sponsor Club Rivers. The clear highlight of the night was the recognition of the St George careers of Moises Henriques and Trent Copeland which culminated in the nominations for both players to be awarded Life Memberships.

St George DCC Patron and Life Member Warren Saunders spoke in support of the nomination of Moises' nomination whilst the privilege of Trent's nomination was provided by Life Member Hamish Solomons. Both players responded by speaking passionately about their St George careers which led to higher honours with NSW and Australia.

Henriques, a local junior with Penshurst West went straight into the Senior ranks of St George DCC whilst Copeland turned up at the club straight out of school from Bathurst. For many a seasons both players have remained loyal and committed to the club despite heavy representative honours.

Their statistics speak for themselves.

Moises Henriques - 3761 runs in 1st Grade, 4120 across all grades with 186 1st Grade wickets and 217 across all grades.

Trent Copeland - 3073 runs in 1st Grade, 4104 across all grades with 359 1st Grade wickets and 401 across all grades.

Other highlights of the night included the presentation of premiership caps to the our champion 4th Grade team as well as the following individual awards -

F M Cush OBE Memorial Award - Blake Newport.

Due to a serious injury Blake had a late start to the season. Displaying true club spirit Blake was a regular at training supporting his club mates in their preparation. On game day he was a regular at Hurstville Oval volunteering to operate the electronic scoreboard. On his return he played a number of mature innings as part of the 4th grade Premiership

A L Blackshaw Memorial Award - Blake McDonald.

After a successful debut last season this season saw Blake take his game to the next level. Even though he missed a number of games with a serious hand injury Blake managed to score 3 centuries in his 641 runs at 80.13. This is an outstanding achievement for any first grader and particularly for someone still U/21. Congratulations Blake.

E W Adams CBE Memorial Award - Andrew Walsh.

In the Round 14 Second Grade fixture against UNSW, team captain, Andrew Walsh, set up victory with the phenomenal figures of 9/28. Congratulations Andrew on a remarkable performance.

David Paull Memorial Award - Rodney Krause.

While finishing second in the Kerry O’Keeffe Medal is reason enough to justify this Award it in fact only highlights the statistical side of Rod’s contribution to the Club this year. His experience and maturity were invaluable to the 4th grade Premiership, mentoring young players while providing stability with bat and bowl. A wonderful contribution Rodney

St George DCC ‘Player of the Year’ - Nicholas Stapleton.

As 1st grade Co-captain Nick again led from the front with both bat and ball. His 986 runs across all formats included three centuries. His 170 not out in Round 15 set a new one day scoring record. His 22 wickets make him an invaluable all rounder and consistent contributor to the team’s performance. Nick continues to develop as a leader and is a popular winner of this Award.

Bruce Mulcahy Memorial Award - Blake Nikataris.

Although he only played half the season in second grade Blake led the aggregate with 400 runs. His consistency saw him elevated to the top grade. Blake is an elegant batsman with a wide array of shots and we look forward to his continued development.

Richard Stokes OAM Wicketkeeping Award - Josh Vella.

With twenty one catches and six stumpings Josh demonstrated his skills both standing back and at the stumps. His consistency behind the stumps played a major part in 4th grades success and with further work on his technique Josh will undoubtedly play higher grades.

Adam Sweetnam Memorial Award - Peter Francis.

As an experienced first grader Peter was a key member of the PG team. He demonstrated this with both bat and ball. His century in challenging circumstances against Sydney University showed great maturity while he led the bowling attack. Congratulations Peter on a wonderful season.

L B (Bruce) Blackshaw Award - Patrick Brown.

Patrick Brown is the ultimate team mate. He is an extremely supportive cricketer who will always look to find any opportunity to help a team mate. He demonstrated an outstanding commitment to training and displayed a never say die attitude during the competition. He possesses all the attributes that represent this great club and there could be no more worthy recipient of this prestigious award. Congratulations Patrick.
