Club President Kevin Green was made a Life Member of St George DCC at the recent Annual General Meeting held at Club Rivers.
He becomes just the 56th Life Member in the clubs long history spanning 107 seasons of operation.
Kevin has had a long and successful association with the club which started back in the season of 1980-81 where he was 4th Grade captain. During this season he also took on the role of Green Shield Manager which lasted a period of 7 seasons and brought about 2 premierships (80/81 and 83/84) as well as runners up in 81-82.
His first foray into Club Management commenced in the season of 1981-82 when he became a member of the management committee. He held this position until the 1986-87 season. He rejoined in 2006-07 and the following season started his tenure as Club President, a position which he still currently holds. He is also currently the delegate to the Sydney Cricket Association and Cricket NSW from 2011/12 to present as well as a Director of Cricket NSW 2012 to present.
As many of you will know, his involvement in the local cricket community has stretched far beyond St George DCC. He has had heavy involvement in the the St George Junior and Senior Association as well as Illawarra Catholic Club where he has helped many different generations of cricketers through his administration and coaching prowess.
He has been a tireless leader of the club which has enjoyed a plethora of success on the field including 4 x First Grade Premierships, 2 x Club Championships and 4 other Flags. Off the field, the list of achievements is amazing with some of the highlights including an unbelievably successful Centenary Year celebration and the ongoing improvements to playing facilities as well as the establishment of upcoming projects such as the new Olds and Penshurst Park facilities. Projects that will ensure that the players (Junior and Senior) and the club will continue to move forward as the modern game continues to evolve.
There have also been numerous successful fundraising efforts such as the Ice Bucket Challenge and Charity Walks which have raised many thousands of dollars for the St George Sutherland Medical Research Fund.
Club Patron and former President Warren Saunders spoke of Kevin being the busiest president in history due to the changing nature of Club Administration in recent times. Communications Manager, Hamish Solomons said "A definite strength the club enjoys is its strong partnerships with its sponsors and Kevin definitely deserves much of the credit for this". "He has attracted many of our now loyal sponsors to the club".
We take this opportunity to thank Kevin Greene for his years of tireless service and hard work and congratulate him on his life Membership at St George DCC.
