After an intensive pre-season and trial period teams have been selected for the Round One match up against arch rivals Randwick-Petersham. Overall the club is looking much stronger throughout the grades after a tough season in 2017-18.
First Grade will be without their four representative players in Trent Copeland, Moises Henriques and Kurtis Patterson who will be representing NSW in the JLT Cup as well as Australian representative Josh Hazlewood who is currently out injured. There are two debutantes in Tom Englebrecht from the South Coast and Tom Ortiz who has come across from Sydney CC. Englebrecht showed his value with a great game against Campbelltown in the tied trial match at Hurstville Oval on Saturday with 70 off 64 ball and 2-36 off 10 with his leg spinners. He has already represented The Saints at Green Shield level. Englebrecht was recently selected in the ACT/NSW Country Futures League side along with Blake Macdonald who is lining up for his 2nd season in the Saints top side.
Luke Bartier, recently home after a successful season in the UK, was also in the runs on Saturday with 70* and is looking forward to a big season along with other young local juniors Peter Francis, Mitchell Gray and Michael Kennedy.
With Copeland out the team will be captained by Nick Stapleton who was one of the standouts of the Sydney Grade competition.
