Round 14 Magic
Date of Event : Tue Mar 5, 2019 7:47AM

Our 2nd side have had a tough year. No doubt it's been a challenge and a strain at times on the skipper. If last Saturday was anything to go by you wouldn't know when Andrew Walsh turned in one the of the great 2nd grade bowling performances. He claimed the astonishing figures of 9-28 off 15.3 overs.

Where does this stands in the list of best bowling achievements for the club as well as in 2nd grade? Well the annual reports only mention 10 wicket hauls. TOUGH SCHOOL for the bowlers. There is one which was in 2nd Grade and it appears to be the only 10 wicket haul in the clubs history. it was achieved by J.Green in 1942-43 when he took 10-19 in 2nd Grade.

Surely it has to be up there as one of the best. No doubt the great Bill O'Reilly may challenge with his 108 wickets in 41-42, 109 wickets in 42-43 and 147 in 43-44. The game has obviously changed since the war period and wickets are tougher to earn. Some may suggest that the pitches are more batting friendly, most tailenders are actually allrounders ....you know how the argument goes.

Back to Walshy. He did not even open the bowling. He came on 1st change. Jono Craig-Dobson had already taken the first wicket. Andrew then took the remaining 9 scapls. Unbelievable.

The E.W. Adams award is given annually to the bowler from any grade with the most outstanding haul of the season. Unless there is a miracle in Rd 15 or the Finals, it is safe to say Walshy has this one wrapped up. Here's how the previous winners fared since its inception -
