Another solid round from the Saints with 3 wins, a tight draw and a loss. 1st Grade never really got going with the bat on week 1, with Matt Hopkins coming in at the unusual position of 6 and scoring 106, his 4th ton for the Saints. He was supported by Peter Francis who took a total of 250 to 325 with his run a ball 57. With the ball, it was tough to make the breakthroughs and 1s slipped to 2-2 for the year.
2s scored a massive victory thanks to another Andrew Walsh 5fer, and a Mitch Gray 115* Adam Whatley (69) and Kaleb Phillips (72) also found some form, 2nd Grade looming as a very dangerous side once again after a few disappointing seasons.
3s are still yet to get off the mark as they came within a wicket of their first 6 points of the year. On day 1 Nick Shurmer’s 97 set up a strong total, but a very good batting wicket at Fraser meant 10 wickets were tough to come by. Blake Newport took 3 wickets in his last 2 overs to give the boys some hope, but that last pole proved elusive.
In 4s a Jackson Shaw 167 off just 149 was hands down the performance of the round, setting up another huge win for 4s. They are now 4 from 4. Luke Stanton has a massive game with 72 and 4/63, while Nathan Anderson bowled 17 overs 3/28. The good times don’t stop. Lastly,
5th grade enjoyed another good win thanks to a team bowling performance, and a breakthrough ton for young gun Alex Parthenis. Partho is still U/15 and he notched up his first grade ton with 106*, just his 4th game of grade cricket. The future is bright.
