What an amazing season for the St George DCC Green Shield team coached by Dave Williams. After losing the first game in tough conditions in Rd 1 the boys really turned on some beautiful cricket to finish in 2nd place behind undefeated Eastern Suburbs.
The boys then had two hard fought wins against Campbelltown and Northern Districts to qualify for the Final against Easts.
There were many highlights of the season, none better than the unity and pride the boys showed in themselves, their parents and their club. The club is very proud of their efforts and is excited about the future prospects for the players involved given that many of them can back up for Green Shield again next season.
Stellar Captain Ethan Jamieson had a wonderful campaign and finished the competition with the most runs with 469 runs at 61.1. This saw him once again selected in the Green Shield Merit team alongside Keeper Max Farmer who was brilliant behind the stumps and played some handy digs. Congratulations to both boys on this wonderful honour.
There were a number of other mighty performances including some monstrous partnerships.
177 between Ethan Jamieson and Billy Arena against Fairfield
176 between Sam Konstas and Alex Parthenis in the SF against Northern Districts.
Both Konstas (2 years) and Parthenis can play Green Shield next season.
The bowling and fielding was a real team effort with the spinners playing a big part in the teams success but it was some fine at the death pace bowling from Magennis and Basnet that helped win the Semi against ND's.
A big thanks goes to Dave Williams on his efforts as coach as well as manager John Grealy and to all the parents that helped and provided valuable support for the boys.
